Spatial context changes conclusions
A timeline says two events happened on the same day. A map says they happened four hundred kilometres apart, which makes one person being at both of them a claim that needs support.
That is the ordinary value of geography in casework: it turns assumptions into testable statements and often kills a theory quickly, which is the cheapest outcome an investigation can have.
Built from the case, not beside it
The map is not a separate tool you feed by hand. It reads the case file, so what appears on it is material that was admitted, and clicking through leads back to the source and the decision behind it.

Frequently asked questions
Is this for live monitoring or for case work? Both. Current reporting and established case locations appear in the same view, which is usually the point.
Where do the locations come from? From material in the case: records, documents and analysed imagery, each carrying its own provenance.
Can it be used for tracking people in real time? Engramite is investigative software, used within the legal basis of the organisation running it. Compliance obligations do not change because a map is involved — see provenance and retention.
